Poor Boyz Productions is proud to announce the return of the Triple Threat Tour. Building on the success of last year’s tour, this Fall we’re packing even more into each and every Triple Threat Tour stop. There are three exciting elements to each tour stop: Athlete autograph signings, the premiere of PBP’s new ski film Revolver, and a massive after party. DJ Hathbanger (aka Andrew Hathaway) will also be on hand at many Triple Thereat Tour stops pumping up the crowds!

The tour kicks off with the World Premiere Weekend in Seattle, Washington from September 10th - 12th. The weekend is broken up into three different parts…

1) The World Premiere Weekend starts on Friday, September 10th, with a pre-party at Grass Roots Outdoor in Everett, Washington, with a DJ Hathbanger live concert, pro autograph signing and raffle. You do not want to miss this night at GRO. Doors open at 7pm.

Hans Gallery from Haines

Hans was hanging out with us for a few Heli ski days in Haines. He got some really good photos of the crew killing it in AK. His website is nice, he put up a gallery that you can check out here. I will post a few of the beauties here if you are on the run and don’t have time to click around the internet. I know this isn’t stumble upon so your not really bored! You either chose to come to poorboyz.com, or you were forced to by my non-stop twitter habit, what was it?

Haines was a big trip for the PBP movie Revolver. I'd say their were 5 big trips in the mix, Austria, Haines, Edmonton, Bachelor and Whistler Park Shoots. Haines was my favorite to be a part of, this is where my skiing was tested, and It felt like all season I was waiting for this opportunity.

A big thanks to Hans for taking photos of our crew in Haines. There are photos of Julien, myself, and Pep in here. I think that JP was not there yet, but he showed up in good time. There are some pictures of Tyler Hamlet in action, a rare coincidence that Hans displays in this stunning, not to be missed gallery. There are alot of crew up in Haines, but there is no crew I would rather be with than PBP crew!

Check out the full gallery here- http://diabloto.com/preview/pbp/index.html

PBP TV Tim Durtschi for a Day in Utah

here is another PBPTV featuring Tim D. I know you are all wanting to see a Teaser but watch this for know and you will not be dissapointed when the teaser is perfected and dropped for all to see.

You can follow a pro around the park, but it is a little harder to follow around a pro in the Backcountry for a day. Steve Rozendall follows Tim on a day of backcountry "warming Up" for the bangers he got for Everyday is a Saturday. This was all sled access in Utah, all shot in a single day except for Pep's shot.
There is a shot of Pep in here doing a massive butter, sorry for not putting a shot of you landing Pep!

Durtschi Diaries 8

I finished Durtschi Diaries 8. It includes lots of exciting things including:

-Footage from my trip to Haines Alaska

-Footage of Pep Fujas and Dane Tudor shredding in AK

-The “Car Wash” testing of the new material for the 2010-2011 line of Saga Anomie Clothing

-Interviews and an Edit from my trip to Alaska for the Alyeska Summer Camp with my cousin Max D.

This will be my last Durtschi Diaries of the 2009-2010 Season. Thanks for all the support, and to all the people who helped me film my escapades this season. Some episodes were lacking skiing, and some were shorter than others, but I hope to the people who stayed tune for the release of each episode (very randomly throughout the season), I hope you got a good feel for how my season went. I wanted to show people what went down while I am not getting those high quality bangers for the PBP Movie, which should release their teaser very SOON! The season is long, and my segment is usually only 3 minutes long, so if your friends watch the PBP movie and want to see what else I did this season, tell them to check out Durtschi Diaries, episodes 1-8, all availible on the Saga Outerwear Youtube Channel

PBP TV Tim Durtschi in Haines AK

This is an edit that Tyler Hamlet worked on after my trip to Haines in 2008 while filming for Reason's. It was my first trip to Haines and was a real eye opener for me. I have since fallen in love with the terrain and amount of possibilities Haines has to offer. Our outfit is Alaska Heli skiing, the guides there are awesome. I am just really excited to keep going back there, this edit is fun and makes me want to go back right this second, even though there is no snow there right now...

Durtschi Diaries 7 Mt. Bachelor Park Shoot

The Mt. Bachelor park shoot is going strong, I got the chance to film some end of the Season park riding with LJ Strenio.

We have been dealing with the late season snowfall which has been frustrating, since we want that spring sun to shine. But it has opened up some opportunities to build some different types of late season features, we are still trying to get the step up rolling, that will be exciting if it goes down.

We also have a step over jump in the process of being built, and you can actually watch the building updated every 5 minutes on the bachelor web cam! Yea same as last year, not kidding, its right at the base of the mountain. Check it out on the homepage of www.mtbachelor.com

The park features have been super fun and creative, here is the Durtschi Diaries and some photos.

Just Did It!

We just wrapped up a great shoot with the Nike boyz getting bangers upon bangers for Revolver check out Nate Abbott's Write up

Taken from Nate Abbott over at ESPN
http://espn.go.com/action/freeskiing/blog/_/post/5148407

<img src"http://a.espncdn.com/photo/2010/0423/100424_abbott_aspen_038_630.jpg>
Sammy Carlson showed up for a few days with his unique style and nonstop skiing. Fakie 360 blunt on the kicker.

Sometimes I feel lucky to be with friends, to have great weather, to be in a special place, to eat a great meal, or to have a new experience. Any one of those things is great on its own, but this week I got all of it in one place: Snowmass, Colorado. A few days in the sun on a beautiful mountain surrounded by people who make me laugh and smile, eating a fantastic meal to wrap up a shoot that saw skiers doing old tricks in new ways and new tricks in, well, new ways. "Lucky me" is really the understatement of the year.

We were in Snowmass for big television commercial film shoot with the Nike 6.0 team (Sammy Carlson, Andreas Håtveit, Simon Dumont, TJ Schiller and Jossi Wells). When the production was finished, the guys from Snow Park Technologies and Snowmass set the boys loose on some serious terrain features: A two jump line, a pretty good hip jump and a perfect 22-foot halfpipe. Tyler Hamlet from Poorboyz was capturing all the action for their fall release "Revolver," and the combination of warm spring slush and an intense crew meant that things were going to go off. (Unfortunately, Andreas was sick with the remnants of the JOSS flu, but the rest of the crew was primed and ready.)

The hip was positioned perfectly at the bottom of the halfpipe, so Dumont was spinning tons of laps including a full pipe run and a big boost on the hip.

Dumont and Schiller were, as usual, dropping the smoothest and biggest tricks. Schiller was skiing pipe for the first time in years, and then he blasted what might have been a world-record rodeo 450 on the hip (landing fakie). Dumont was hitting both sides of the hip, gapping from side to side, and finally doing these enormous double 900s and 900 blunts over the (running) halfpipe cutter. Sammy Carlson was only around for a couple days of shooting, but his passion and non-stop motion were a refreshing boost to the whole group. He slaughtered the right side of the hip with huge alley-oop spins and some fun-times lip tricks.

Here it is -- it might look like a mellow 540 mute, but this is halfway through Jossi Wells' fakie 1080 double flip.

The standout for the trip, however, was Jossi Wells. He started out doing fakie to fakie 270 blunt on the hip, then stepped up to bonk a huge light tower left in the pipe after the commercial shoot. Then came the hammer. We've seen Jossi and others throw switch double 1080s in the pipe using an airbag, and there is footage of Taylor Seaton almost landing one on snow (see this video, 1:55). But to my knowledge, this is the first time anyone has stomped this trick. After a couple times getting used to the commitment of the second flip, Jossi started going bigger, grabbing mute and stomping. Welcome to the next level, brought to you by Jossi Wells.

Revolver Superpark Continues

It's spring time and that can mean last min changes to your features depending on what mother nature throws you, that doesn't bother Sammy Carlson one bit as he has continued to work every last second of light available to the cameras to get just that right shot. This special jib the other day consisted of bonking, barrels, and perfect timed stunt driving and coordination to make sure all the pieces of the puzzle came together. See Tim Durtschi's account of it below:

PBP Mega Park shoot

So there are alot of pros in Bend Oregon right now for the Poor Boyz Mega shoot. Â Sammy Carlson and I have hit a few features together. Â I have not skied with him much since Booter Crunk so it was fun to session a few features with him before things get real hectic here in Oregon.

P.S. I painted my poles purple, then they broke.

Working hard in the deep Whistler terrain

Riley Leboe here (www.rileyleboe.com)
Cold Rush wrapped up last week and it was an amazing event. Snow conditions, weather, and stability all worked in our favour. I had a great week, stayed on my feet, and ended up 4th overall. I was pretty stoked, wish I would have skied a bit better, but that’s the way it goes sometime. I’ll be on that podium next year...

After Cold Rush I went straight to Whistler. It’s been snowing like crazy, we must have gotten like 4 feet in the past week here. So conditions have kicked ass. Been skiing lines, hitting cliffs, step downs and jumps all over the place. I’ve been shredding with Charley Ager, Brandon Kelly, Mike Henitiuk, Bene Mayr and Josh Stack. Behind the lens for PBP is Jeff Thomas and Pete Alport and we’ve been getting some bangers! Pretty stoked. Anways, here’s some shots from this past week.

Bene and Chuck had a sick session on this huge poppy road gap. They were throwing down. Everything from massive flat 3’s to 720 pillow bonk 180’s.
Pretty pimp day, I went to shred some pillows in the trees but unfortunately the snow got a bit to heavy to make it look epic. So, I shredded the lines on my sled and it was some of my best sled turns I’ve ever had!

Jeff Thomas here....
The boys have been working hard playing in the deep late winter conditions up here in Whistler. We are currently on a down day waiting for some more sun but watching it snow once again. Yesterday saw us build our 3rd large step down this week, unfortunately, late fog only allowed us to build a fire and chat. Anyways, the first one rendered a perfect switch misty 9 blunt, and a massive 1080, the 2nd saw some switch 9s, switch cork 5s, and some of the biggest switch 7s I have ever shot from both Charley and Riley. Pete and I have been floored by the amount of stuff we have been able to get done with zero days of planned sun in the last week. Each athlete has seen their hard work pay off with lines, pow, pillows & big jumps all going down. I am excited to see what happens on step down number 3 of the week....its a big poppy one!

So you want to go and shoot skiing in Alaska ……..?

Dan Carr's blog post about A.K. for more info please and photo's please go to. http://dancarrphotography.com/blog/2010/04/02/so-you-want-to-go-and-shoo...
I’m becoming very very familiar with the interior of the hotel room in which I’m currently sitting. The front door is a portal to the 1970s, wood paneled walls that creak in the night, vinyl flooring and a selection of electrical appliances that would make an interesting museum exhibit. They call it the “slow roast” here in Haines, Alaska, and nobody knows how long it will last. When I first arrived in town 2 weeks ago the skies were blue for a couple of days and we got right into it. But since then our fortune has changed. We have flown for 1 run in the last 7 days….. and its beginning to drive us insane. The weather patterns seem totally unpredictable, even by the most seasoned of Alaskan forecasters. We have given up even checking on them, the only way to go is to look out of the window.

I’m here with a crew from Poorboyz productions, working alongside them while they film for their new movie, Revolver. Our stacked list of pro skiers consists of Dane Tudor, Tim Durtchi, Julien Regnier, Pep Fujas and JP Auclair and I’m doing some shooting for Atomic Skis and Salomon . The trip actually started out with a bang though….. flying into Juneau from Vancouver I was greeted with beautiful sunshine. There are only 2 ways to get from Juneau to Haines, sea or air. And we aren’t talking 737s here , you need to pile into a tiny 4 seater Piper Cherokee with all you ski gear and camera equipment. When the weather is nice the plane is the way to go and saves you a ton of time and for $100 you get one of the most beautiful flights you could ever hope for as you fly up the Chilkat inlet towards the port town of Haines. As soon as we landed we headed straight up to “33 mile”, the base for Alaska Heliskiing , located 33 miles outside of Haines. It was already late afternoon but we did all the necessary paperwork and safety checks that are required when you go heli skiing, so that we were ready to fly the next day if the sun held out.

Unfortunately, as usual, I cant show you any of the skiing photos until they have been used in next winters ski magazines but here is a few other shots from our trip.

On the flight from Juneau to Haines I jumped in the front seat with my Canon 1d MKIV and my 24mm f1.4 II lens. Due to limited space I could only take the camera and one lens but I made a quick little video. These little planes are shaky, could have done with a gyro to stabilize things a little bit. If you want to watch it in HD you can head HERE

Shooting in AK is very different from normal shooting in most situations. The cost of using a helicopter is huge, nearly $3000 per hour to be exact. There are several ways to approach using a heli and they both have their advantages and disadvantages. If you rent a private heli then you have to pay a minimum cost per day, whether you use it or not. This cost varies but it can be upwards of $4000 a day. When you often have huge long stretches of down time like we have had, having your own heli can really ruin your month! On this trip we have experimented with various options, including splitting a heli with a snowboard film crew that is also up here. The disadvantage is that you get less drops on a good day, but at least you dont go broke if you have some major down time. Its not unheard of for people to come up here and spend all their budget without ever getting to fly at all! So you finally get up in the air on a bluebird day and that clock starts ticking, you pay for the heli for every minute that you are flying in it, $50 per minute. Taking hours to search all the lines in the area is financially not really an option so the riders have to be on the lookout for something they want, and we have to quickly make a decision as a team, as to whether its going to look good on film and photo with the light that is currently on it. Knowing the area is a huge advantage, knowing which lines get light at which times and which ones get sun-baked by a certain time. Its a huge learning process for the younger riders in the crew like Dane and Tim. When a zone is selected the heli spins round to let the riders snap a photo of the zone and then often they are dropped straight on top of the line, only seconds after seeing it. From there everything looks very different and picking your line down by looking at the photo is an art in itself. Because of the limited weather windows and the huge costs, there is always pressure on the riders and filmers/photogs to make every shot count, its a very different vibe to most shooting that I do in the mountains. For the skiers , and even myself to a slightly lesser extent, you have to stay constantly mentally prepared. The weather can change quickly and then you get the phone call to gear up and get down to the heli port. As a skier, in an hour you can go from being in bed to standing on top of the line of your life, with no warm up run. And as a photographer you have to make sure that you capture that moment perfectly because you might have waited days and spend thousands of dollars for that split second. There’s always a lot of choices to make, where can you stand that is safe (which can be a limiting factor), what lens will you use and when will you take the shots. The lines can be long, and simply holding down the shutter button will have you filling your in-camera buffer in no time meaning you miss the shot as the skiers sends it off the cliff at the bottom of their line. If you don’t have a private heli for the day, the riders can only expect to get 3 or 4 runs in a day if its bluebird all day. More often than not, the weather is not that stable and you might get one run in before the clouds roll in and its time to head back to the motel. It’s a waiting game.

The video below was shot entirely with a GoPro® Helmet HERO™ Wide camera. I’ve had one of these now for a couple of months and been really impressed with the quality of the video. It shoots in full 1080p at 30fps , or 720 in 60fps. It can also be used to take low res photos and you can set an interval timer on that to create a timelapse. These things are a lot of fun and small enough that i can just slip it in my pocket. Most of the shots in this movie were taken using the optional GoPro chest mount. This video is well worth watching in HD on vimeo’s site, if only just to see the exceptional quality of the video from such a tiny tiny camera! Hopefully it give you a bit of an idea what its like to shoot a day in Alaska. The video was edited in Final Cur Pro but one thing you should know is that natively the GoPro records to an h.264 encoded file that is not much good for editing. If you want to edit multiple clips together like this you will need to use a program to convert the files to a quicktime file with a different codec like AIC or prores 422. You can use a free program called Mpeg Streamclip to do this. To watch the video in HD please go HERE.

Euro Trip!

Austria Crew Update:

Over the last 10 days Myself, Pete Alport, Nate Abbott merged with the Star Power of Simon Dumont, Jossi Wells, Tj Schiller and European native Bene Mayr. Arriving with blue skies and sunshine we wasted no time from the day the crew arrived off the train from Tignes France.

We were dealt a hand of weather from mother nature that ended up being interesting; that if you didn’t know when to hold em’ and know when to fold em’, or know when to walk away, you would get skunked. Luckily we weren’t here to just gamble but make that straight flush.

We were able to combine a unique trip of Pow, Urban and Kickers with various styles, with hitting every day’s condition to go with the right feature making it a Triple Threat shoot for us, get it?! Triple Threat Tour=Revolver (gratuitous tour plug). Each day after shooting we would find ourselves more often then not at our favorite après ski life place, “The Funky Chicken” Where those guys know how to keep us hydrated. We’d like to thank the whole staff there for their hospitality for letting us make that our home for the 10-day tour. Also Wima @ St. Anton Tourism for year after year helping us out!

There are quite a few highlights, Picking up Revolver this fall would be the best way to catch it all. Just take a look at the photos for teaser preview.

Were rolling on back to the homeland US of A. Park Shoot madness, pow chasing, and urban filing still to come.

For a preview of the goods for the first few days, check out Nate’s Blog on ESPN at:
Chads Gap With Tim Durtschi

I have been very lucky over my 10 plus years of filming skiing to be at every major Chad's gap session. From filming Chad clearing it with my one chip digital camera to capturing Tim Durtschi on HD it has been amazing to watch.
This latest build was one of the hardest. Including a scouting day I spent over 70 hours at Chad's over the course of 9 days. In that time my friend CR Johnson passed away(RIP), we had bad weather and with the five year reunion of Tanners crash on my mind I constantly questioned weather I should even be building it. There is nothing a filmer hates more then seeing one of his friends hurt, and as you will see(eventually) The most famous gap in the world did give up a new trick, but it also dished out some punishment.

Big Sky Country Urban? Part 3 The Wrap Up.

In this third and final installment of Big Sky Country Urban?! I’m just going try to giver’ and re-cap it all, in as few words as possible.

Between 36 hours with LJ, air soft bb gun fights against big chuck, and Simon getting us the ok from the local law enforcement we were able to snag a handful of shots right off the bat from the start. With a warming trend coming through our spot we headed further eastbound and down, packed the trucks, pumped some Sexy Chick, and Tik Tok to keep us moving and met up with the local Montana crew “Toy Solider Productions” Where we found them and shared what is soon to be a hit urban spot and shredded the underpass with them late into the night. Next day before heading back and getting exiled from the local cops we were able to add a few more shots in the can. When Sunday rolled around we took a little time off to go to the local hill up to Great Divide and ski with the local talent, and it’s booming! With setting the schedule for the rest of the week and Walker due to leave on Wednesday, Charles, Alexis and I got down to business trying to get creative with the little snow that was left and Simon (Host and Owner of Big Sky Board Sports) Was able to wrangle us some sleds up to use for some potential back country urban mission. As with most things nothing ever turns out as easy as it seems but shots were gotten and we moved onto the night mission on a standard down rail where the likes of Walker, and Gagnier got greasy smooth with style on to complete the trip for walkers departure only a few hours later. Lastly we headed north for search of more snow with Alexis and Charles but only to find ourselves getting red flagged and in trouble with State Sheriffs this time. When a local man demanded we leave and refused to show ID we refused to leave a public spot in Belt Montana to session a epic 60+ stair down rail, we then called the Sheriff ( keep in mind the small town of belt has no local police) to tell us why we couldn’t be at the public spot and he claimed due to the town not being happy, and him not being happy for making the trip out. It was useless and they just didn’t get it so by barely avoiding jail time (according to the sheriff) we made our way to our next feature that took another 12 hours to get permission to session before we ended the trip.

All in all BB fights, the best coffee ever (thanks simon) handrails, buffalo strips, subway eating challenges, and Charlie Grinnell aka Big Chuck, made the trip what it was.

I guess that wasn’t so short of a post. Whoops.

Many thanks to Simon & Greta Elston for hanging in there while we got our mission accomplished! Please visit http://www.bigskyboards.com/shop/
